Terms of Use and Disclaimer
Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE] · These terms are between you and Thomas Jeanne Enterprises LLC ("we").
Please read this part. Lay of the Land gathers public information to help you get to know an area. It is a planning aid, not an emergency service and not an official source.
- In an emergency, call 911. Don't wait on the app.
- Information can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Weather, fire restrictions, wildfires, rip currents and air quality change quickly, and our sources can be late or down. Always follow official orders, posted signs and local authorities.
- We don't rate places as safe or unsafe. We show what public sources report, with context. Crime figures cover a whole city or county, and offender counts say nothing about any one street, building or person.
- Places, hours and services come from maps and listings that may be wrong. Call ahead, especially for medical care.
- Tips are general guidance, not medical, legal or professional advice.
Using the app
You may use Lay of the Land for your own personal trip planning. Please don't:
- copy, scrape or resell reports or data in bulk, or use automated tools to get around usage limits;
- interfere with the service or try to get around its bot checks;
- use the app to harass, track or harm anyone, including people listed in public registries.
Not for screening people or housing decisions
Lay of the Land is not a consumer reporting agency, and reports are not consumer reports. You may not use anything in the app, including crime totals or offender counts, to decide on anyone's eligibility for housing, employment, credit, insurance or any similar purpose. Hosts must not use the app to steer, screen or treat guests or tenants differently; fair housing laws apply.
Traveler upgrade
Some features (such as offender counts, cell coverage by carrier, extra saved trips and sharing) may require a paid upgrade. [When purchases launch: describe price, billing period, renewal and cancellation. App Store purchases are billed and refunded by Apple under Apple's terms.]
Other sites and data sources
Reports link to and use information from other organizations, listed on the data credits page. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, availability or practices. A source being listed doesn't mean it endorses us.
Our content
The app's design, text and code belong to us. Data from our sources stays subject to their own licenses and credits.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for decisions made or actions taken based on the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Changes and ending use
We may update these terms; the date at the top will change, and continuing to use the app means you accept the update. We may suspend or end access for misuse. You can stop using the app at any time.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. [Confirm with a lawyer, including where disputes are handled.]
